Day 27: Sun Oct 2

Saying goodbye to Bend, OR and to a road trip that is sure to stay on my mind for years to come. This morning, I tried to keep my 10 am remote teach, and also find a way to visit the Petersen Rock Garden without making myself late to my in-person teaching event in Lake Oswego, OR when my car screamed that it needs oil. (I changed the oil just prior to the trip, but had driven thousands of miles since.) Fine, an oil change on a Sunday takes precedence over all else. I had to cancel my 10 am class and spent 60 seconds (literally) at Petersen.

But the stop at Petersen put me on the right wrong path. Let me explain: Google Maps strongly urged me to take the 20 to the 5 through Salem, OR. I played with other options, but Google was steadfast in offering 2 variations on this route. At no point until today did Google suggest I take the gorgeous US-26W. Somehow, being at Petersen kickstarted that suggestion. I went along, not realizing it’s a new plan. It even took the same amount of time.

I arrived at my place of work 30 minutes before class. After meeting my 5783 (that’s the Hebrew year) students, the thought of parking in my own garage and sleeping in my own bed are enough of a high note to end this post on.
