Day 22: Tue Sep 27

I’d already left the Moab region, but it stayed in my mind. I recalled the previous day’s travel to Provo/Orem and wanted to see that view again. I thought about a couple of other things back in the Moab region. Then, I dropped the day’s plans (to explore SLC) and headed back to Moab for the day.

Yes, seeing the same terrain, but from another direction does look different.

I stopped back at the hostel and had linner with a friend before heading back. My friend told me about a local fresh water source. Guys, I should have filled out a gallon bottle. Here’s where to go: From South Main Street, turn toward the national parks, cross most of Moab and be on the lookout for a green sign at the side of the road (“Castle Village,” with an arrow). Turn right and drive about 1/8 of a mile to the first turnout. It’s right there.

I then headed back a little further than the previous day: all the way to Salt Lake City. Caught a little sunset on the way.

I can’t stand doing that amount of driving in one day. Moreover, I had a late start and was concerned about driving in the wilderness in the dark. Luckily, I just reached the urban/Provo area when darkness fell. And while I drove, I realized “oh no, I have to teach a class at 8 pm, a time that I am normally already in my hotel.” Immediately, I remembered that Starbucks, McDonalds, and Panera Bread offer free wifi to their customers. I mapped out a stop at the nearest McDonalds and arrived 3 minutes before class would begin. In my excitement, I connected my jit.si meeting to the wrong student!!! By the time I realized my error, that made me a few minutes late for class. But we met for an hour. And then I proceeded to my lodging. And there was ample lighting.
