Leaving Moab was difficult. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not the village that I am attached to—it’s the proximity to all those mammoth red rocks, which releases some pleasure hormone in me. As I head northwest, the terrain changed. It was still mountainous, just the colors and groundcover were different.
My first stop was unplanned. I bought gas and mozzarella sticks at Price, UT.
Next stop was Provo. From the looks of it, it is a very livable town: Large, well-planned, clean, easy to navigate. At Provo, I visited the very impressive campus of Brigham Young University. My first stop was the Museum of Paleontology.
Here’s a typical view from a street in Provo.
Before moving on, I stopped by the Fulton Library to see the Roots of Knowledge windows.
Next I stopped at Orem. Orem, you say? What’s in Orem? This is where your age will show. Orem was, at one time, the headquarters of WPCorp. I went to pay homage. Here’s what I saw on the way (check out Stone Henge at the corner):
Before MSWord took over the western world’s word processing needs, there was fierce competition between Word and WordPerfect. We, the superusers, believed that WordPerfect would weather and win the battle of the word processors. We felt professionally and passionately about WordPerfect’s capabilities and potential to deliver more sophisticated documents. After a time, though, we sadly conceded and moved on to other products as WordPerfect took a back seat.
I experienced a nail emergency the previous day, so I stopped at a salon for a fix-up. As soon as my manicurist at Kim Nails learned that I am traveling, he enthusiastically suggested a number of local things to see. So after getting my manicure, I walked next door to Thai Drift, bought a couple of dinners (that would be split into 5 meals over the next few days), and headed out to an impromptu view of Kyhv Peek for sunset and an expanded view of the city.
The drive up the awesome, winding road was difficult, as the setting sun blinded me, at times.
The drive down was somewhat easier. Watch for 2 grown deer about halfway through the video.
