I had forgotten just how much I enjoy exploring big cities. The same way that others like hiking in nature, I like to walk, block after block, taking in the scene. This being my second day in downtown SLC, I made my way on foot to Liberty Park. Splurged on a cappuccino and lemonade at the Bird Feeder Cafe at the Tracy Aviary. I recommend the Aviary 🙂 .
On the way back, I passed by a traditional massage joint (very informal, the woman called me “honey” repeatedly). They fit me in, so I’m feeling much better than yesterday.
I then headed out to Wendover, NV, passing the Bonneville Salt Flats, UT just before reaching my destination.
The hotel clerk indicated that there’s plenty of casino entertainment, so I checked it out. Admittedly, I feel very awkward at casinos. I’m quite comfortable having a drink at the bar, but blocked when it comes to gambling. 70’s pop and disco music were pumped through speakers at the Montego Bay resort‘s parking lot. I entered the building and was immediately breathing cigarette smoke, which I expected. You see, when I considered staying at a casino, I read reviews and learned that all Wendover resorts rate as mediocre, for a variety of reasons, and that indoor smoking is permitted. So while I didn’t want to stay at a casino, I was curious to visit.
I sat down. When the bartender asked for my order, I asked “do you guys make Moscow mules here?” He responded confidently, but then brought me a drink that tasted like 7-Up/bitters/water. I am a rather light drinker and, until today, never complained about a drink being too watery. But it was so ridiculous that I traded it in for a bottle of Corona. Played it safe!
